I made a conscious decision to scrutinize every European and Japanese horse i could get my eyes on or find on the net. I know the horses and horsemen here, the North American horses I feel I know, so, I made it purposely to keep an open mind on the Japanese invasion, the best Japanese contingent since Mr Miyagi appeared on the screen in Karate Kid.

"Handicapping is like walking on right side, safe, left side safe, walk in the middle of the street and you get squash like grapes".

If you follow main stream media you get run over, if everybody thought the same you get everyone on the same horses. Most handicappers suffer from complacency, they do the same thing they always do, they gravitate to the same jocks, trainers, horses they know, they rarely move out of their comfort zone, they walk in the middle, and 'get squashed like grapes'.

"Wax on - Wax off, and don' forget to breathe, in thru the nose and out the mouth, wax on - wax off, and don't forget to breathe."

The Japanese have exhibited a total commitment to checking all the boxes.

For example, showing their horses the turf course, the wire, the gate, and even popping from the specificed stall, for example, if their horses drew rail, they requested the horse pop out of the gate from the inside hole. That's thoroughness, the Euros do the same they show their horses what they will haver to face, and deal with it. It's a walk thru.

For example, American trainers teach their horses to be three wide at the three-eighths, the Euros and Japanese teach horses to sit in the pocket, take dirt, or come up inside. They give their horses confidence. They would make Mr Miyagi proud.

As a free product reminder this is Del Mar Fall, not Keeneland, not Saratoga, not Gulfstream, its Del Mar and most handicappers went to study the Del Mar surface during the summer, and that is handiccaping Seppuku.

Hear me now, and listen to me later, there will be many evil forces pulling you to listen to their way of thinking, the same ole, same ole, the Turf Authority telling you who looks ''good''.

You are going to have to listen one person, not more than one, when you get too many voices in your head makes your handicapping schizophrenic or bi polar.

Wax on - Wax off and dont forget to breathe.

The Thursday Del Mar will give you a primer but remember they start some 3 hours before the BC program. First post for Thursday is at 12:30 Pacific, 3:30 Eastern.

Do not bank you opinions on what you see today, track wise, the moisture content is thru the roof early in the morning.

The humidity at this time is 78%, and the dew point is 45 degrees, which means water in the track is steady. The water in the track doesn't evaporate as quickly as it does in the summer. The less water the more speed skips away, more water content makes it fair for everyone.

And....... there is no rain coming, I fielded a number of calls about rain. No! Stop it!

Again, wax on, wax off, and don't forget to breathe, thru the nose and out the mouth.

You, as an handicapper, need to know yourself, and maybe you need to a wash car to two and then wax, and dont forget to breathe.

Annnnnn-ticipation.......

Ah, Del Mar. There’s a certain poetry to it — the kind you only find when the stakes are high and the champagne is lukewarm. You stand there, watching those thoroughbreds glide across the dirt, and yo
