You know Breeders Cup is around the corner, when Super Saturday's start poppping up, today at Belmont at Aqueduct, The Great Race Place at Santa Anita and under the twin spires, at Churchill Downs we got races that will define the Breeders Cup at Del Mar in just about 30 days time.
Our simulcast edition is packed his afternoon and this evening, as Churchill Downs starts at 6 pm Eastern time, with 15 4 star works across the country.
6 - 4 star works on the Churchill card.
8 - 4 star works on the Santa Anita card as we added a clocker and we have a full workout report and,
1 - 4 star work at Belmont at Aqueduct.
Churchill Card will be on a wet track, we have been pounded by the remnants of Hurricane Helene.
Our hearts go out to those affected, and especially in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina.
The devastation is some communities in North Carolina is crazy bad.
The weather for the rest of the country includes some light rain in NY early, possibly less than 2/10ths of an inch, Arcadia is beautiful and 85 degrees.
The weather outlook for opening weekend at Keeneland is looking very nice, but let's not jinx it.
As I am continuing to recover from my bout, allegedly, strep throat this past week on the drive to Kentucky, I was reminded by our own HR, Amy Kearns, she may have jinxed us last Thursday as she reportedly told her significant other "Bruno seems to have all figured out smoothly in advance on their trip back to Lexington!". Famous last words and in a nutshell that has a lot to do with handicapping.
We go confidently into a card but never with arrogant feeling, I am asked regularly 'how much you love the card?'
The staff and I approach the card with the same routine, we do our works, videos, and put the product together, we have everything in front of us, we don't get too high, nor we get too low.
Amy, who does the Churchill card with me, always gives me the ''hickkkk' feeling about her races, it's all a roos, she doesn't want to come across too high on them, but its more like she is building a 'beaver lodge across streams', she just does her work and is extremely productive without fanfare.
I love it when she makes a score on her card and later says "I really liked that horse'', me, 'Seriously? yesterday you were like 'eeeeh!', but Amy can be like that, close to the vest, before she gets her work I learned to stop asking 'if she likes anything big', I know I will get 'a little of this, a little of that'. Now, you know where i get it from.
You can like what you have seen leading in and let the chips fall where they may. You always have to watch the paddock, the warm up, get the feel for how the day is going.
I am particularly interested in the Santa Anita and Churchill card today, and we won't have to build a beaver lodge to get there, its already been done for you.
