Racingwithbruno Bloodstock
The Racingwithbruno bloodstock division is standing up—and people are starting to notice.
Banksy has now earned over $200,000. He came from modest beginnings, and now he’s pointing toward Stakes events this fall. More importantly, he has helped validate what we are building with our breeding program.
Our two-year-olds are making it to the track and are currently with David Fawkes and his assistant, Eric Gary, at Churchill Downs. Behind them, we have yearlings coming up for next year, including Banksy’s half-brother by Tom’s D’Etat, one of three horses we have in that pipeline. That group also includes our most recent purchase, which we showcased in the blog, out of Mission City Girl.
And we’re not done.
We’re heading to the Keeneland Yearling Sale looking to add a couple more to the roster. I already have my eye on three.
Here’s the difference with Racingwithbruno:
I’m not an agent who goes out, buys horses for clients, collects a commission and moves on to the next deal.
I’m invested.
I purchase a percentage of the horses. I have skin in the game. I’m all in. And I—and we—have reaped the rewards. The Racingwithbruno bloodstock operation has won at a 16–20% clip perennially.
We manage the stock using experience. We use our veterinarians. We use our eyes. We do what we believe is best for the horse.
We have a breeding program, the last two years we have taken our mares to Heartland at Winstar Farm.
And the results show, we love love our Heartland babies on the ground.
We are in the process to make the commitment of going to White Abarrio at Gainesway next season. We will have shares available for that once the deal is inked.
On the racing front, with a modest bankroll, we have achieved Graded Stakes-winning status as an owner. Racingwithbruno purchased both Bo Cruz for $45,000 and Ms Locust Point for $17,000—a combined $62,000. Both Graded Stakes winners.
Those two horses went on to earn us more than $2 million through sales and race earnings.
That’s a Dollar General budget with tremendous upside.
We’re not buying 20 or 30 horses a year. Three a year is a good year for us—if we can find three horses we truly believe represent value.
There’s a perception in this business that the highest-priced auction horse is the only way to win. I don’t buy it.
A big bankroll buys you quantity.
Maybe, within that quantity, you find quality.
We don’t have that luxury.
We have to actually be good at what we do.
We have to identify value. We have to trust our eyes, our experience, our vets and our process. And when we believe in a horse, we have to be willing to put our own money behind that belief.
That’s Racingwithbruno bloodstock.
Small bankroll. Big belief. Real skin in the game.
And, so far, some pretty damn good results.
