🏇 Amy Kearns Is at It Again

5 min read

Seriously.

Besides doing the Keeneland video works, handicapping multiple tracks, handling the day-to-day grind of racing — and doing all of that while she and her husband Tom are dealing with little Michael’s cancer and everything that comes with real life — how dare she go to Kentucky Downs and put up a 39.5% Top Choice winning percentage?

How dare she?

And then she has to go and have 54% of her 1st and 2nd Choice selections win.

Oh, and 68% of the winners at Kentucky Downs were in her Top 3 Choices for the entire meet.

Come on, Amy.

Give the rest of us a chance!

And on closing day?

7 of 14 races won with the Top Choice.

Half the card.

7 out of 14.

Bravo, Amy.

Quietly, without making a big production out of it, she is basically singing:

“This is how you do it.”

And you know what?

The numbers don't lie.

🎯 While Everyone Else Is Talking...

This is what I love about Amy.

She doesn't need to tell you how good she is.

She just goes to work.

Give her a spreadsheet and a clipboard and it's like winding her up.

She goes.

She studies.

She handicaps.

She does the work.

And then the numbers show up.

Amy also handled Colonial Downs, where she produced a 28% Top Choice winning percentage for the meet.

Multiple tracks.

Multiple responsibilities.

Family responsibilities.

And somehow she keeps showing up and doing the job.

That's Amy.

❤️ RacingWithBruno Is a Family

There is another part of this story that means more to me than any percentage.

RacingWithBruno is a family.

When little Michael needed help, we all pulled together.

That's what families do.

And through all of that, Amy and Tom continued handling life, family and work.

They didn't miss a beat.

There were races to handicap.

Videos to produce.

Reports to prepare.

Clients to serve.

And life to deal with.

That's bigger than handicapping.

That's character.

🤖 And No, Amy Is NOT AI

Let me make something perfectly clear.

Amy is a machine.

But she is NOT AI.

In fact, if you want to have some fun, just ask Amy what she thinks about AI.

Go ahead.

I'll wait.

You're going to get an earful.

Actually, you'll probably get a sermon.

Amy hates AI with a passion.

Trust me.

Tom and I we've received the sermons.

Preach it, Amy!

😂

🫠 Handicappers Have Gone Soft

I've said it before, and I'll continue to say it:

Handicappers have gone soft.

They're like melted Tootsie Rolls, rolling around in figures and ratings.

Everything has to be a number.

Everything has to be a rating.

Everything has to come from some fancy model.

Amy?

Give her the past performances.

Give her the spreadsheet.

Give her the information.

And let her work.

Her secret isn't some magic formula.

It's doing the work.

Quietly.

Consistently.

Relentlessly.

📱 You Won't Find Amy Putting Tickets Up Like Christmas Decorations

Amy isn't sitting on social media putting tickets up like they're Christmas decorations.

She's not looking for applause.

She's not interested in showing everybody how brilliant she is.

In fact, Amy sometimes bemoans the fact that she even has to go online to look something up.

Scratches.

Track conditions.

Information she needs.

And when she has to go online, you can practically hear it:

“Geez o Pete, I had to go online.”

😂

That's Amy.

And then there's her other favorite expression:

“I don't give a fuck.”

Which, apparently, she says often enough that Tom has had to admonish her for being a little too free with that particular statement.

That's marriage.

That's Amy.

🏀🏈 Oh, and She'll Beat You in Fantasy Sports, Too

As if handicapping multiple racetracks wasn't enough, Amy also plays fantasy sports.

Basketball.

Football.

NBA.

WNBA.

She's won our own RacingWithBruno Fantasy Football League.

And in Fantasy Basketball, she has a habit of trampling the competition, including her own family.

Our own Laz — Brian Lauzurica — summed it up perfectly before one of our drafts.

He basically said:

“It doesn't matter who I get because Amy is going to assemble a team to mangle me like she does every year.”

Laz ain't lying.

😂

⚾ Why We Call Her “HR”

That's how Amy got the nickname HR.

It can mean Human Resources.

But we also like to think of it as Home Run.

Because Amy has this annoying habit of quietly hitting it out of the park.

She doesn't necessarily make a lot of noise.

She doesn't need the spotlight.

She just keeps producing.

Home run.

Again.

And again.

And again.

🏇 Quietly Competitive

Amy is quietly competitive.

She loves the game.

And she hates to lose.

She's not soft and cuddly.

She can be prickly.

She can give you a sermon.

She can tell you exactly what she thinks.

And sometimes, God help you, you really should listen.

But here's the thing:

She gets the job done.

That's what matters.

At Kentucky Downs, she got the job done.

At Colonial Downs, she got the job done.

With the Keeneland videos, she gets the job done.

With multiple tracks, she gets the job done.

With her family, she gets the job done.

And when little Michael needed his family, she and Tom showed up.

That's who Amy is.

📊 So Let's Look at Those Numbers Again

Because after all the jokes, the teasing and the Amy stories, we come back to the one thing she doesn't need to argue about:

The numbers.

Kentucky Downs

🎯 39.5% — Top Choice winners🥇🥈 54% — 1st & 2nd Choice winners🏆 68% — Winners in the Top 3 Choices🔥 7 of 14 — Top Choice winners on closing day

Colonial Downs

🎯 28% — Top Choice winners for the meet

That's not somebody talking about doing the work.

That's somebody doing the work.

❤️ Bravo, Amy.

and you know where Amy is right now..... She's driving little Michael for his chemotherapy appointment IN CINCINNATI. She's got her computer and her clipboard, which Tom had to fix a crack in it, a number 2 pencil and a pencil sharpener in her to go bag, and of course little Michael. As her vet told her on a recent visit, 'We saved little Michael's life'! Bringing tears to all of our eyes, for sure.

Bravo, Amy.

We're proud of you.

And we're proud to have you as part of the RacingWithBruno family.

Keep the clipboard sound.

Keep the spreadsheet.

Keep winding yourself up and most of all, keep little Michael safe.

And please, for the love of God, don't make Amy go online unless absolutely necessary.

Because we'll never hear the end of it.

😂🏇❤️

Preach it, Amy.
