Who You Gonna Call?
Whoa. This has been a WEEK AND A HALF and its only Saturday.
New Belmont Park opens. Trainers, owners and racing personalities are apparently preparing for WAR. Dogs and cats are living together especially under Tom & Amy's roof. Mass hysteria.
Somebody get Bill Murray on the phone because we are officially in Ghostbusters territory.
Who you gonna call?
We got a LOT of racing ahead of us. Final days of Churchill Downs. Keeneland right around the corner. Santa Anita getting ready to fire up. Big Breeders’ Cup preps sitting out there on the horizon like a bunch of big decisions without bourbon at a family reunion.
Fantasy Football, got 70 plus points in the Thursday Nite game on our Racingwithbruno Fantasy Football League.
Hell yeah!
How fun is this?
Every day is a big day in horse racing, and today is no different.
Who knows what kind of fireworks we're getting this Saturday?
Parx has a monster card — 15 races, including the Pennsylvania Derby. And the big question remains:
Will the Florida Derby horses FINALLY break their no-hitter?
Chief Wallabee may be the most likely candidate, dropping into an allowance race at the New Belmont.
For those of you who have been living in a cave, under a rock, with the Wi-Fi turned off:
The 2026 Florida Derby field is STILL WINLESS.
That's right.
That highly regarded “best Derby prep” has produced approximately ZERO wins since from its participants.
That's not a slump. That's a group project where nobody showed their arse up.
We’ve also got a big card at Churchill, and — hold onto your hats — NO INVITE IS REQUIRED FOR BELMONT PARK TODAY.
The common folk may enter.
The gates are open.
Hallelujah!
And I want to take a minute to say how proud I am of my friend Roger Cettina. He built the new Belmont Park, and he did a hell of a job.
Roger, congratulations!
Now, NYRA...
DON’T FUCK IT UP.
That seems reasonable.
What the hell am I forgetting?
Oh yeah...
WE HAD FOUR TOP-CHOICE WINNERS AT BELMONT PARK YESTERDAY.
And we’re working our asses off to get Wrestling Gripes Nite at Keeneland ready for next weekend, where we're hoping to end the yearling sale with a bang and roll directly into the meet without ending up in a sleeper hold or figure four leg lock.
Because apparently normal horse racing wasn't enough.
Now we need professional wrestling.
Speaking of horses, yesterday Cherie DeVaux and her husband David Ingordo were kind enough to let us catalog Englishman’s work at 5:30 in the morning.
In the DARK.
As in, “the sun has not yet been informed that we have a horse to watch” dark.
It was too damn dark for our cameras, but Englishman didn't seem to care and Cherie and David lent a hand. Thank you. Best of luck to y'all and keep beating Repole.
The Breeders’ Cup Sprint hopeful went 47.1, 59.2 and stormed home in 1:11.4.
And even Amy Kearns — who is normally about as stoic as a Supreme Court justice watching somebody parallel park — looked at him and said:
“That’s my favorite horse.”
Well.
Color me stunned.
We don't generally get that kind of emotional declaration from Amy unless we're talking about her own pets...
Or, of course, her beloved Little Michael. He's picked up three pounds since his surgery.
Yes!!!
So thank you to Cherie and David for letting us use the video.
And we also got Banksy’s final prep before his date next Friday at Churchill Downs, where he's going to try to extend that winning streak.
He worked 49.4 and 1:02.2, which is pretty much his normal morning routine.
That pony has an automatic pilot.
He went off easily in 13.2, 25.3, 49.4 and out in 1:02.1.
You can actually see him accelerate when he needs to.
No need to break the stopwatch in the morning.
Some horses work like they're trying to qualify for the Special Olympics, some know how to save something. Who knew?
Banksy's worked like somebody told him there's a race next Friday and he said, “Yeah, I know."
So here we are.
Another big Saturday.
Another giant day of racing, like seriously is there is anything less.
Big Day has my friend Matt says, constantly.
Another opportunity for the racing gods to provide us with either spectacular entertainment or a story we’ll be bitching about by lunchtime right into a snack before dinner.
Probably both.
Let’s go!!
