I LOVE THE SMELL OF A BIG DAY.
I mean I love it.
I want to yell it.
BIG DAY!
That’s what today is.
You don’t know what you’re going to see. That’s the beauty of it. Which horse is going to show up and make an indelible mark? Which jock is going to dominate? Which trainer is going to have one of those days where everything falls their way?
You have ideas.
You better have ideas.
You have a thought, an opinion, maybe two opinions.
And you should.
Because you did the work.
That’s where the delicacies come from.
THE WORK.
We have over 250 works for Saratoga. I don’t even know how many for Del Mar, Ellis, Colonial, and everywhere else. Big cards all over the place.
We had 14 at Saratoga.
Amy did 30 at various tracks.
Overall?
About 450 races a week.

We love it.
We LOVE IT.
At this point we cover more races in a week than eggs cracked open at Waffle House for breakfast.
And somehow we’re still hungry.
Today we feast on Saratoga.
BIG DAY.
We handicapped it with a little thought in the back of our head about rain headed toward Saratoga Springs.
Now, before somebody gets cute, no, we don’t have access to scratches and changes the day before.
So what do we do?
We use EXPERIENCE.
You know, that thing you get after doing something ten thousand times instead of ten times and deciding you’re an expert.
We are thankful for YOU.
The player.
Not the guy looking for somebody to tell him who to bet.
The PLAYER.
The person who understands that common information means everybody ends up on the same horse.
That’s not an edge.
That’s a traffic jam.
We don’t flood the industry with our product.
We guard it.
We protect it.
Because it has become painfully obvious that a lot of people have absolutely no idea what GOOD information actually is.
It’s not a rating.
It’s not some whispered bullshit:
“Yeah, I heard so-and-so thinks they’re live.”
Your parking valet tells you the horse is live?
Your barber has a guy who knows a guy who knows the assistant trainer?
You see a B-plus next to a horse and suddenly you think you have classified government intelligence?

That is inside baseball.
We told you how a horse looked.
Not just “he looks good.”
Not “he’s live.”

Now that's some kindergarten bullshit.
We told you how that horse would be perceived coming out of a 2-year-old-in-training sale WITHOUT the six-figure auction price attached.
That matters.
There are very few people who can actually look at a horse and tell you something meaningful.
Most people?
They can.t tell you the color.
That’s about it.
You’re looking at a horse.
The people on this network of blogs, the people who went out of their way to sign up for

You’re willing to learn.
You’re willing to listen.
And listening?
Jesus Christ.
Listening is one of the hardest things in the world.
Right behind comprehension.
People don’t want to listen anymore.

I work at it.

Maybe a trainer puts together one of those days.
Maybe the rain changes everything.
That’s racing.
That’s why we’re here.
WE do the work.

Then you watch the damn thing unfold.
That’s the fun.

THE GAME.
